Rookwood Pottery  Art Deco bust of a lady is strikingly beautiful in it’s simplicity.  She is marked with the flame mark which identifies the maker and luckily the date and a model number.  All of which can be traced so that we know it was made in 1927 by Rookwood Pottery.

The cream glaze gives definition to the features of the lady so they seem to stand out even more.  Look at the details of her har – from front ot back she is simply exceptional.  A wonderful piece made in the Art Deco Era.  A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Yes – Yes – Yes. This gorgeous and boldly colored Blue Lagoon pin and earring set is signed Sarah Coventry but was in fact made by the blind manufacturer DeLizza & Elster,Inc.

It’s the colors of the rhinestones that makes this piece -something that D & E was so very good at designing. The aurora borealis navettes have such a deep blue color to them they are not the ordinary type at all. The way the colors in the other rhinestones are picked up in the other rhinestones with the light blue and deeper blue along with the shape of the pin.  All rhinestones are prong set and the metal is a bright silver tone.  The earrings match the pin in color and style.  It is so very well made.

Please take a look at my pictures of the set and you can see why it attracted my eye immediately.  When I was able to unravel the mystery as tot he maker I knew immediately why I was drawn to it.  The maker Delizza & Elster was also the maker of the Juliana Jewelry I love so much!Photo Library - 1967

Photo Library - 1208Harry Iskin – the mark being an H with an I thru the center -this is something at first I did not recognize when I came across this fabulous brooch.  I onlynew that the rhinestone was huge in the center (approx 1″) and the depth of the setting with the faux pearls made this utterly fabulous.  It was later on that I learned it was Harry Iskin and one of the nicer pieces he made.  Measuring approx 3″ this is a huge gold filled piece.  Since it is gold filled the setting held it’s intregity.  I thought I’d share my discovery as not many of these fabulously large rhinestone pieces of his were made.  More of the smaller rhinestone pieces were made.

Elsa Schiaperelli is an icon of fashion of mine ever since the day I found one of her magnificent bracelet and earrings sets.  It is such a breathtaking design that I knew I had to find out more about the designer.  I knew her purses sold in the hundreds of dollars but never thought about perfume.  The other day in my travels I happened to find an unopened – still wrapped partially in cellophane bottle in bright pink with the letter S on the front and Schiaperelli on the base.

I knew it was Elsa Schiaperelli’s perfume and knew it was vintage not new -armed with this information I did a bit more research on her perfumes.  It turns out Shocking pink was Elsa’s signature color -therefore the use of bright shocking pink on the packaging.  She loved this color pink as she felt it was life-giving.  Her style of fashion design was sexy and unique and so is this perfume I am told.  Sadly I have not opened the bottle as I am now selling the perfume on Ebay under the seller name DLVintage Boston-photo-library-887 unopened this week

I found out she had two other sayings that I loved..they were:

” A good cook is like a sorceress”  and ” In difficult times fashion is always outrageous.”  Elsa your words inspire us even to this day.

If only I could keep one piece of costume jewelry which piece would that be?

That would surely be the most difficult question for a collector -you’d think ? The answer Virginia is easy after I caught this elusive Monet butterfly pin – the Monet Plique A Jour Butterfly. This is old Monet Ladies – Mint condition old Monet. The workmanship in this piece of vintage costume will blow you away. The heavy setting in a gold plated metal with Plique A Jour enameling in the inner wings of the beauty which gives the effects of stained glass in enameling. Green pave set rhinestones for it’s body and antenae that swirl and attach back to it’s body for support. Rhinestones are in a variety of shapes and colors to match and complement the plique a jour and have a special checkerboard cut on top. Bezel set too I might add so they are in a more expensive setting than prongs Ladies which is why they are all present. Open work wings for the butterfly so it looks as if it is floating in the air. Setting has height and dimension as this beauty should be. Almost forgot that the lower wings are also enameled in a green blue metallic colors. The signature of the piece on the back is that of an older Monet and when you hold it in your hands it is something you never want to put away.

I’ve collected costume jewelry since the age of five and I know perfection when I see it. For a short time I will be offering this on Ebay so please take a look and bid on it if you can.

I was amazed to find this wonderful vintage circa 1960’s purse in my travels and marveled at the large sideways oval shaped tortoiseshell lucite handles paired with the bright effects of gold lamme. Folded in half it was my idea of style and the ultimate in vintage design that would go great today. I searched the bag for a name since something with this much style must have a name right? Well looking all over the bag at first I found nothing then upon closer inspection I saw letters thru the lucite handles. I grabbed my trusty Eisenbach Germany magnifier and I could cleary read the words in capital letters: ” Lady’s Pride”.

The name itself told me it was vintage since no manufacturer today would dare name their product Lady’s Pride now would they? Today the name would seem demeaning like the only thing “us” girls would be proud of is a clutch purse ? How shallow a thought would that be? Ladies, we are proud of ourselves at our achievements and of what we have created in business and at home. But are we kind of proud of our purses ? The answer Ladies is yes – some of us like myself included are both proud of what we have achieved and our purses. I marvel at the workmanship and design in this Lady’s Pride purse and am not at all offended by the name. That’s because I know who I am and what I like. Take a look for yourself and decide if the name fits for this vintage purse or not…photo-library-1116

I started a new venture this year and put most if not all of my efforts into selling on Ebay. I’m bucking a trend to go out and start your own web site but in an economy that’s not as forgiving as it used to be I decided to go with the site people feel save them money. Striking it out on your own web site is nobel but this is the year to go with the site people associate with saving money. That’s Ebay you know.

So far it’s been quite surprising since am finding that the better pieces sell and there’s not that much difference with selling on Ebay than on other sites except for loads of traffic….I’ve changed my product mix a bit and now sell a bit more gold and add handbags to my collection. So far it’s been working out well and just been approved as a merchant for Paymate. With this said I just listed a beautiful vintage signed Swoboda Peacock pin. It looks so beautiful and full of life which is a wonderful tribute to my new venture isn’t it? My seller name on Ebay you ask ? dlvintage and my store dandlvintageboston.photo-library-1631

I cam across the most remarkable 18 K gold and 925 sterling silver ring it was signed Paul Robilotti. A jeweler with a background in Architecture it’s no wonder I was attracted to his ring. The style of the ring is that of the Renaissance and the name of the design is Goddess & Serpents. Surrounding the ring is a wonderful framework in sterling of leaves with adds height and dimension. Doing a search on Google for the jeweler I am finding him to be listed under many venues including his own web site. I can’t find another ring like this in 18 K and sterling except for a pair of earrings in 18K and diamonds -those are selling for $ 7,000.00 online.

Let me update those who follow my blog as we’ve started selling on Ebay and now have been approved to sell with the merchant account Paymate. I sell under the name DLVINTAGE and my store is DLVINTAGEBOSTON. Take some time and do a seach on my seller name : DLVINTAGE and I know you’ll love seeing more pictures of this incredible ring by jeweler Paul Robilotti.photo-library-1215

This signed Trifari vintage fish charm bracelet is captivating in it’s design, workmanship and uniqueness. I believe Trifari’s key to success and the reason they are so hotly collected even today is due to their artful design and use of quality materials.

Trifari’s masterpiece in jewelry makes even the bracelet part of this fish charm design unique. Take a look at the open work links which ties the nautical theme in to the fish charms that hang from the bracelet. The large chain of the bracelet reminds me of the ocean and if you’ve walked thru a marina and seen the heavy chains attached to boats
then you have the visual clue to the nautical connection.

This design would not work if these fish charms weren’t cute and adorable and look alive. These guys look like they could swim away on you if they weren’t attached to the bracelet. To add to the cute appeal the designers added a faux pearl in the center of their mouths and colored glass cabs for their eyes. They are larger sized charms but the fish themselves look like youngsters. Having five of the fish on the charm bracelet spaced equally except for the back of the bracelet also makes perfect sense. The layout allows the person wearing the bracelet to be able to put the back of ones wrist down on a table and not hit the charm.

Trifari created a fun fish bracelet loaded with subtle design themes that reflect back to a nautical yet with a whimsical feel -all in costume. The quality of the piece is also known when you put the bracelet on. Wearing the bracelet with the heft and comfort of the piece tells the wearer in a subtle way that this piece is worth keeping for as long as you possibly can keep it.

A real treasure for a charm bracelet- of course it’s Trifari.

Yes there is a Whiting & Davis dragon mesh belt – a recent find complete with original box and label no less.  It depicts a fire breathing dragon with a mouth that loks like teeth and a jagged dragon tail too.  I’ve seen many snake belts by Whiting & Davis but never a dragon belt.  The dragon is a symbol of good luck in the Orient but in the Western culture this mythical creature is feared.

Today the dragon symbol is hot in style. This belt is made of bright gold tone mesh with a tag of Whiting & Davis Creations with an original price of $12.00.  Along with this belt came a small brochure of the items they used to make. A snake belt was shown along with a mesh necklace. The styles shown indicated it was made circa 1970’s.

Was the image too fierce for people to buy and was this the reason it did not take off in the fashion of the day. Or was it too difficult to manufacture and did the costs get more than the $12 price warranted.  I have more questions than answers right now. I just know this piece is quite unique.photo-library-197
