Rookwood Pottery Art Deco bust of a lady is strikingly beautiful in it’s simplicity. She is marked with the flame mark which identifies the maker and luckily the date and a model number. All of which can be traced so that we know it was made in 1927 by Rookwood Pottery.

The cream glaze gives definition to the features of the lady so they seem to stand out even more. Look at the details of her har – from front ot back she is simply exceptional. A wonderful piece made in the Art Deco Era. A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

This signed Trifari vintage fish charm bracelet is captivating in it’s design, workmanship and uniqueness. I believe Trifari’s key to success and the reason they are so hotly collected even today is due to their artful design and use of quality materials.

Trifari’s masterpiece in jewelry makes even the bracelet part of this fish charm design unique. Take a look at the open work links which ties the nautical theme in to the fish charms that hang from the bracelet. The large chain of the bracelet reminds me of the ocean and if you’ve walked thru a marina and seen the heavy chains attached to boats
then you have the visual clue to the nautical connection.

This design would not work if these fish charms weren’t cute and adorable and look alive. These guys look like they could swim away on you if they weren’t attached to the bracelet. To add to the cute appeal the designers added a faux pearl in the center of their mouths and colored glass cabs for their eyes. They are larger sized charms but the fish themselves look like youngsters. Having five of the fish on the charm bracelet spaced equally except for the back of the bracelet also makes perfect sense. The layout allows the person wearing the bracelet to be able to put the back of ones wrist down on a table and not hit the charm.

Trifari created a fun fish bracelet loaded with subtle design themes that reflect back to a nautical yet with a whimsical feel -all in costume. The quality of the piece is also known when you put the bracelet on. Wearing the bracelet with the heft and comfort of the piece tells the wearer in a subtle way that this piece is worth keeping for as long as you possibly can keep it.

A real treasure for a charm bracelet- of course it’s Trifari.

Yes there is a Whiting & Davis dragon mesh belt – a recent find complete with original box and label no less. It depicts a fire breathing dragon with a mouth that loks like teeth and a jagged dragon tail too. I’ve seen many snake belts by Whiting & Davis but never a dragon belt. The dragon is a symbol of good luck in the Orient but in the Western culture this mythical creature is feared.

Today the dragon symbol is hot in style. This belt is made of bright gold tone mesh with a tag of Whiting & Davis Creations with an original price of $12.00. Along with this belt came a small brochure of the items they used to make. A snake belt was shown along with a mesh necklace. The styles shown indicated it was made circa 1970′s.

Was the image too fierce for people to buy and was this the reason it did not take off in the fashion of the day. Or was it too difficult to manufacture and did the costs get more than the $12 price warranted. I have more questions than answers right now. I just know this piece is quite unique.

I’ve admired the works of the Master painter Renoir all my life. Costume jewelry has always been part of my life since I think I could talk. Tripping over this pair of Vintage Matisse Renoir copper earrings has intrigued me so. It actually bonds the connection to both the Master Painter Renoir and the Vintage Jeweler.

Impressionistic paintings of colors and combinations like no other are what I would imagine when I visualize a Renior painting. Matisse Renoir has no business connection to Renoir as they were makers of vintage copper jewelry. These Matisse Renoir Earrings brought about the the same Joie de Vivre feeling that the paintings of Renoir did to me when I view them. Blues and greens enameling with layers of height and copper all bright and unique. The signed Matisse Renoir pieces have more design to them and more feeling which is why they are coveted.

Called Nile as far as design and are said to have an Egyptian them. To me it is French in feel and so very sexy. That’s the fun part about costume as every piece has meaning to the owner. Visit us at

Recent find for D & L Vintage was this extremely unique combination of vintage perfume – Paris Gas street lamps – the Rue de La Paix and cigarettes ? All combined in this wonderful vintage piece which has the Paris three gas lamp whose top opens to reveal two ( one is missing) vintage perfume glass bottles. The bottles are marked Parfum Lanterne de Paris and Paris France. Researching the Rue de La Paix in Paris I found that it is one of the most fashionable streets in all of Paris and is know for it’s jewelers. Cartier opened their store in 1898 at 13, Rue de La Paix. The street name was picked by the maker for this reason one of extreme quality. The combination and use of cigarettes to disguise the smell of smoke is and was very useful since at that time smoking was considered very elegant. ( At that time the harmful effects of cigarette smoke were not yet known.) It is a work of art in it’s own right with the base having the look of round cobblestoned streets and painted detailing on the lamp post. The base could be used to hold jewelry as a jewel tray instead of cigarettes and would make a divinely exceptional one of a kind piece for a collector.

Vintage Rue De La Paix Perfume and Ash or Jewel Tray

I am captivated by a hand painted bank which represents the character Sally in the Charles M. Schultz “Peanuts” cartoon. The base is stamped in black United Feature Syndicates which is the marketing arm for Charles M. Schultz’s cartoon creations. Hand painted in Florence the bank looks so unique that it could be displayed as a work of art in your house and no one would know it’s a bank. Her mouth is painted black and you hardly see that this is the slot to store coins. I researched Charles M. Schultz and found that he was one of the few cartoonist who was able to maintain control over his creative work and characters. He was also quite successful. As you can see in this bank it is skillfully made with great care to have lasted since the sixties.

People all over the world have caught the vintage jewelry passion for collecting. I understand the reason for the world wide collecting craze. I had started my collection at the age of five years old and still have the items I was given as a child. These pieces are made exceptionally well with materials not found today because it is so expensive to make. Therefore each piece is one of a kind and usually cannot be manufactured today. Each piece is unique and not the cookie cutter looks that can be in the department stores. Take for example this unsigned vintage costume bracelet- it is decorated with gold tone metal feathers which are decorated with faux coral beads and in between faux pearls. The links feel so good against your skin too. This bracelet was hardly if ever worn so it’s condition is considered near mint. Everyone appreciates beauty.

Designers like Kenneth J. Lane designed pieces for Avon and now the K.J.L. for Avon pieces are a hot commodity. So did Elizabeth Taylor and we all know how much she loved jewelry. Recently I came across this headhunter pin and could not imagine who made it – was it Hattie Carnegie, Kenneth J. Lane no I saw a makers mark but it was too vague to read. It was not until I photographed it did I see it was marked Avon. Avon pieces are well made and attractive and a great place to start collecting costume jewels Ladies!
